I am an American from the San Francisco Bay Area living in Erlenbach, Switzerland since November 2011. I have been working with children since I started my first babysitting job at the young age of 13. During my college years at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and College of Marin in Kentfield, California, I worked as a nanny to pay for my education. My educational focus was Child Development, Early Childhood Education and Nutrition. I moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 2000, where I continued to work with children taking a job as a nanny / teaching assistant for a 5 year old boy with sensory integration disorder. I had the pleasure of working closely with Dr. Simone Rodin, child psychologist in San Rafael, California. I learned the art of play therapy, which gives kids the opportunity to communicate their feelings in a fun, explorative environment. I also learned how to help children build coping skills, resiliency, empathy, and better social skills. Through my mentorship with Dr. Rodin, I learned how to view children as complete individuals, deserving of the same respect we would extend to an adult. Her warm engaging style created a safe trusting environment for children, which I mirror to this day. I have also had the pleasure to learn the art of descriptive praise and reflective listening, a technique developed by Noël Janis Norton. All of this additional training along with my formal studies and my ability to deeply relate to children, helps me to be the best that I can be for all the children that I have the pleasure to meet.
Over the past 30 years I have had the pleasure of working as a childcare provider for many families from Philadelphia to the San Francisco Bay area, and now here in Erlenbach, Switzerland. My love for children and passion to inspire children to be unique individuals who communicate well and feel good about themselves, is why I decided to start Ms. Poppins. Our children are the future of this world and it is my mission to give them a good head start towards a successful future and a lifetime of happiness.
